简　　介  

　　德川幕府时代，会津藩马回队军人笹原伊三郎（三船敏郎 饰）剑术高明，为人则固守职责，委曲求全。某日，藩主松平政容（松村达雄 饰）将宠姬阿市（司叶子 饰）以大不敬的罪名赶出藩邸，并命其下嫁伊三郎的宗子与五郎（加藤刚 饰）。迫于对藩主的虔诚，笹原家终极接管了这门亲事。婚后与五郎和阿市相亲相爱，婚姻完竣。
　　然工作忽然发生变化，阿市于城中生育的儿子成为藩主继续人，为免有失体统，藩主欲将阿市召回。不满藩主的言而无信，伊三郎倔强拒绝了来使的在理要求。双方一触即发，伊三郎和与五郎不惜以鲜血保护军人不成加害的声誉……
　　本片荣获1967年英国电影妹会奖萨瑟兰郡奖，1968年电影旬报之最好导演、最好影片和最好剧本，1968年逐日电影奖最好影片，1967年威尼斯电影节费比西奖国际影评人奖。
