简　　介  

　　多克（伯特·兰卡斯特 Burt Lancaster 饰）和罗拉（雪莉·布思 Shirley Booth 饰）原本享用着很是幸运的生活，可以一切都由于罗拉的怀孕而发生了改变。为了增加支出，多克不能不放弃了自己挚爱的研讨奇迹，转行成为了一位推拿师。而罗拉终极没能顺遂的生下孩子，不但孩子没了，自己还损失了生育才能，失望当中，多克只能依靠酒精来麻痹自己的疾苦，而罗拉则将对孩子的豪情依靠在家里的小狗身上，夫妻两人的脸上都再没有了已经的笑脸。
　　多克将空屋间租给了一位名叫玛丽（泰瑞·摩尔 Terry Moore 饰）的女孩，活跃又美丽的玛丽渐渐吸引了多克的留意，让多克和罗拉之间的关系变得加倍卑劣起来。
