　　外出放牧的年轻人吉姆回到了故乡。几年的放牧生活让吉姆驯服了一群品种良好的种马群。带着他的驯服的良好种马群，吉姆回到了阔别已久的故乡，来找本来的女友杰茜卡。但是，究竟几年的工夫曩昔了，故乡的情况发生了很大的变化。
　　返来后未几，吉姆就从朋友塞勃的口中得知，银里手派顿预备赶走山上一切的居民，并预备让议会为此经过一个法案。杰西卡的父亲哈里森在山上经营着一个牧场，为了能获得派顿经济上的支持，哈里森希望自己的女尔杰茜卡能与派顿的儿子亚利斯蒂成婚。可是，此时的杰西卡仍然深深地爱着吉姆。在一次集会上，亚利斯蒂以其精湛的军械表演赢得在场职员的赞叹，他借机向杰西卡求婚，吉姆忽然却出现在大师的眼前。为了能与心爱的人在一路，吉姆的马术表演一样赢得了一切人的掌声。
　　虽然派顿以银行存款相威胁，让哈里森否决杰西卡与吉姆在一路，但杰茜卡掉臂父亲的否决，对峙留在了吉姆身旁。由于得不到杰茜卡，亚利斯蒂和一群人到山上找吉姆的茬。在山上，亚利斯蒂的一个同伴遭受吉姆的种马群惨死在马蹄下。一天，被打伤的塞勃跑来告诉吉姆，亚利斯蒂正在偷他的马，预备往境外销售。吉姆丝绝掉臂生命的危险，哈里森也将银行存款申请书还给了派顿，经过一番奋斗，吉姆终究追上马群，克服了亚利斯蒂，哈里森也带着女儿杰茜卡加入到驯养种马群的行列。
