　　孤儿大卫·科波菲尔（弗雷迪·巴塞洛缪 Freddie Bartholomew饰）童年时代命运悲凉，在诞生前就落空了父亲，母亲克拉拉（伊丽莎白·阿兰 Elizabeth Allan饰）再醮与摩德斯东师长（巴兹尔·拉思伯恩 Basil Rathbone饰）成婚。凶恶贪心的继父很快表露了其恶毒的真脸孔，小大卫受尽他的各式熬煎与凌虐。大卫历经艰辛，克服了各种困难，终究成为维多利亚时代著名的作家。
　　本部好莱坞著名导演乔治·库克执导的1935年影片《大卫·科波菲尔》，按照英国小说家查尔斯·狄更斯典范同名小说改编。制片人塞尔兹尼克压服了疑虑重重的米高梅公司老板L.梅耶来拍摄狄更斯的这部小说。本片显现出1930年月早期电影的松散建造和奢华明星声势，荣获第八届奥斯卡最好电影、最好导演和最好剪辑提名，第三届威尼斯电影节金狮奖提名。
