　　故事发生在1939年，丹尼尔（梅尔·吉布森 Mel Gibson 饰）是一位空军飞翔员，一向以来，他都深深爱恋着名叫海伦（Isabel Glasser 饰）的女子，就在丹尼尔决议将心里的豪情公诸于众之时，海伦居然遭受了意外成为了动物人。心碎的丹尼尔找到了研讨冷冻生物学的好友哈里（乔治·温迪特 George Wendt 饰），希望后者可以将自己冷冻，以回避现实。
　　令丹尼尔没有想到的是，当他再次展开双眼之时，时候已经奔腾到了1992年，此时的天下同他昏睡之前的天下已然截然分歧。丹尼尔想找哈里，却找到了哈里的女儿，并得知了好友的死讯，与此同时，丹尼尔亦得知海伦早已苏醒，直到本日照旧连结单身一人住在海边的绝壁之上，冲动万分的丹尼尔马不停蹄地赶往彼处，寻觅久违的爱人。
