　　电影的第一部分，一块空缺的银幕上，一个女人的声音读着从一个殖民地美国的识字课本中拔取的ABC歌谣。
　　第二部分，一秒钟的镜头显现一些单个的词，凡是是出现在标牌上，按字母顺序排列。浅浅地，当导演一而再再而三地阅读这个字母表，每次利用一套分歧的单词集，每个字母的位置都添补着图像——火焰、海浪、碾磨汉堡。到这一部分竣事时，影片已经缔造了一个怪异的图案字母表，每个图像都关联着一个字母。
　　影片的最初一部分由几个长镜头组成，一个汉子、一个女人和一条狗渐渐地穿过雪原，陪伴着阅读关于光的中世纪文本的声音。
　　而中心部分，表现了结构电影严酷系统的一面，牢固摄影机和终场长镜头依照戈特海姆的《雾线》和其他冥想式作品的方式显现了一种逐步的变化。《佐恩引理》形式上的复杂性已经获得了普遍的诠释。它是有关孩子的说话获得、视觉和声音之间的合作，大概自然与人类的关系面临字母表这样的野生系统的优越性？
