　　牙医朱利安（沃尔特·马修 Walter Matthau 饰）素性风骚，为了不被情人们纠缠，他对外宣称自己是个已婚男人。作为朱利安的情人之一，托尼（歌蒂·韩 Goldie Hawn 饰）的心里布满了疾苦，在被朱利安置了一次鸽子后，她想到了自杀，所幸被邻人伊戈尔（Rick Lenz 饰）救下。得知托尼由于自己寻了短见，朱利安非常感动，决议娶她为妻。可自以为成为了破坏他人家庭的圈外人的托尼居然提出要在成婚之前见一见朱利安那从未露过面的妻子。
