位于英国南部城镇Kingsbridge的修道院，院长Phillip矢志兴修一座大教堂。为了这高尚理想，Phillip鸠集各地工匠，为筹建大教堂而奔走。其间大教堂的兴修工作多有挫折，仆人公男配角杰克Jack Jackson最初继续后父志向，担当起大教堂的兴修工作，建成那时英国最为绮丽的大教堂
