　　在先容本片之前，首先需要讲点历史。墨丘利计划系美国最早的载人航天计划，初次载人航天飞翔是在1961年5月5日。在这之前的两年时候里，美国宇航局屡次试飞无人操纵的墨丘利飞船。最初一次试飞是在1961年1月底，乘客是黑猩猩Ham，飞船飞越大西洋700千米。飞翔进程中出现了几个小题目，但Ham死里逃生并在海上着陆。后来，美国宇航局就再也没有请Ham上飞船了。
　　本片的故事，还得从昔时这位勇敢的黑猩猩航天员Ham说起。为了从Ham家属的名声中捞取益处，一位参议员找来了Ham的孙子、屁用没有的笨蛋猩猩Ham三世，让它和两个猿猴同伴坐上最早辈的宇宙飞船，穿越虫洞去往一个陌生星球。在那边，Ham三世遭受了一个暴君，并展开了一段奇妙的旅程。
