　　酒吧的女办事员艾吉（艾什莉·贾德 Ashley Judd 饰）比来被莫名的电话困扰，而她有家暴前科的丈夫杰瑞（小哈里·康尼克 Harry Connick Jr 饰）新近由狱中获释，令艾吉担忧。艾吉的同性情人RC将一位新结识的男人彼得（迈克尔·珊农 Michael Shannon 饰）先容给她，彼得有些羞涩又稍显荒诞，却获得了艾吉的信赖，当夜供给沙发给彼得入睡。越日，杰瑞登门造访，殴打艾吉并羞辱彼得后拂袖而去，艾吉与彼得相互坦露了相互的奥秘，艾吉已经丧失了自己的幼子，而彼得在军中退役时，已经被选为尝试的工具，他为了摆脱使人疾苦的尝试逃了出来……两个无助的人住到了一路，可是彼得思疑自己的血液中有尝试留下的虫子，这类恐惧困扰着他们，令情势走向失控……
