◎简 介
美国南北战争，白人军官罗伯特·古尔德萧（马修·布罗德里克 Matthew Broderick饰）在战役中负伤，被一位名叫约翰·罗林斯（摩根·弗里曼 Morgan Freeman饰）的掘墓人发现送进了野战医院。在波士顿养病时代，罗伯特自愿接下了全数由黑人组成的“麻州第五十四兵团”批示官的职务。但是面临种族轻视的严重偏见和白人同寅的冷言冷语，以及新兵瑞普（丹泽尔·华盛顿 Denzel Washington饰）的各种质疑，他决然将一群从南方黑奴制度中脱逃至北方的乌合之众练习成一支纪律严正的军队。由他率领的黑人兵团“麻州第五十四兵团”，在南方的查尔斯坦战争中写下光辉的一页。但是罗伯特自己却在上疆场攻坚时壮烈牺牲。
由著名奥斯卡获奖导演爱德华·兹维克执导的史诗战争影片《名誉》，按照美国南北战争中的实在事务改编而成。本片以对作战排场惊心动魄地描写和对黑人受虐惨况催人泪下地刻画，赢得1990年第62届奥斯卡金像奖最好男配角、最好摄影、最好声响等多项大奖。尚未成名的丹泽尔·华盛顿更凭仗此片一同收获1990年第47届金球奖最好男配角。
