电影改编自伊朗女插画家Marjane Satrapi的同名漫画，以自传的形式报告了自己的长大履历，反应了伊朗的社会变迁。
1979年以后，伊朗倡议了伊斯兰教反动，社会动乱不安，反动的失利更使伊朗落空民主的希望，日渐守旧，群众苦不胜言。九岁的Marjane早熟、敏感，她聪明地瞒过官方爪牙，迷上了西方朋克乐队微风行音乐，沉醉在自己的天下。
两伊战争爆发以后，伊朗的生活加倍艰难，Marjane渐渐长大，越来越大胆的行为让怙恃担忧不已，她14岁那年，被怙恃送到了奥天时上学。
在奥天时，Marjane身为一个伊朗人，不能不面临他人的轻视和自大的情感。当她终究克服了心理障碍，赢得大师认可的时辰，恋爱的伤痛和对故乡的忖量，却使她决议回到怙恃身旁。
此时的伊朗，仍然履历着烽火的洗礼，宗教对妇女生活的限制越发严苛，Marjane起头思疑自己能否应当在这个布满独裁的国家继续生活下去。
