少年马丁（康勒·帕奥罗 Connor Paolo 饰）的家人在雨夜遭到吸血鬼的杀戮，幸亏一个自称“师长”（Nick Damici 饰）的陌生人赶到，将马丁救出。自此，当美国在吸血鬼的进犯中沦亡，国家构造毁于一旦的同时，马丁跟从者师长的脚步，在后者的练习下展开了方针北方的寻觅自在之旅。两人在为了自保而各自封锁的小城镇之间穿行，沿路消灭吸血鬼和用心不良的暴徒，他们从大盗手中救出一位修女，但却是以被基督教兄弟会捕捉，兄弟会深信吸血鬼是天主派来净化地球的使者，他们配合吸血鬼策动对人类的打击，马丁和师长因杀死兄弟会成员遭到正法，侥幸逃走。他们继续向北方的自在之地前行，沿路是兄弟会的围堵与未知的命运……
