　　已到迟暮之年的汉娜（吉娜·罗兰兹 Gena Rowlands饰）和保罗（肖恩·康纳利 Sean Connery饰），是一对看似婚姻、家庭皆完竣的老汉老妻，膝下三个女儿也都出落得亭亭玉立。但是本性悬殊的三个女儿，在豪情门路上却并非风平浪静。抱定单身主义的戏院导演梅雷迪思（吉莲·安德森 Gillian Anderson饰），一向坚称自己对汉子没有丝毫好感，可当恋爱到临的时辰却不能自休；为追求感官满足米尔德里德（艾伦·鲍斯汀 Ellen Burstyn饰）而变节婚姻，却蒙受心里感情的苦苦挣扎；挺拔独行的琼（安吉丽娜·朱莉 Angelina Jolie饰），夜夜纵情夜店，直到基纳（瑞恩·菲利普 Ryan Phillippe饰）的出现，她才碰见生射中的真爱。他们的家庭和感情生活，都遭遇着各类突如其来窘境的考验。
