　　本片描写瑞士达拉公主举行化装舞会，各路人马都来目击粉红豹巨钻的风采，而钻石盗与抵挡军皆觊觎公主豹巨钻。法国杜索探长追到瑞士欲擒钻石盗。查理爵士著名流般的风采，公主与杜索夫人均被他所迷惑，并暗自与之私通。舞会上，杜索就地逮到查理爵士行窃，但巨钻却失落；杜索夫人与公主共商奇策为查理脱罪，乃栽赃杜索探长而使杜索一夜之间成为家喻户晓的钻石大盗。

　　本片可谓六七十年月的《白天神探》系列，笑剧大师彼得·赛勒斯的代表作，影片严重热烈，既滑稽又搞笑，系60年月的笑剧典范。曼西尼创作的主题音乐是另一个亮点。1964年的第二集《黑夜怪枪》（A Shot in the Dark）被誉为本系列的最好作品，讲探长惘顾证据，为美男洗脱罪恶；1968年的第三集《乌龙帮办误出神魂》（Inspector Clouseau，又译《糊涂大侦察》）讲英国警方请求克鲁索辅佐破获一路能够发生的偷盗案，但彼得·赛勒斯缺席；1975年的第四集《乌龙帮办再显神童》（The Return of the Pink Panther，又译《妙探长巧取粉红豹》）起头玩大的笑料，但结果并不完善；1976年的第五集《乌龙帮办行大运》（The Pink Panther Strikes Again，又译《活宝》）讲克鲁索探长的下属酿成了狂人，欲统治天下，需要克鲁索当一回007；1978年的第六集《乌龙帮办逢凶化吉》（Revenge of the Pink Panther）已经黔驴之技，没有什么花样可玩；1982年的第七集《傻豹》（The Trail of the Pink Panther，又译《粉红豹再度反击》）是拿之前的零星镜头拼集起来的，由于那时主演赛勒斯已经归天；1983年的第八集《混吉帮办》（Curse of the Pink Panther，又译《傻龙登天》）讲一个纽约侦察被派去寻觅失落的克鲁索探长，由罗杰·摩尔主演。2005年行将推出的重拍版由史蒂夫·马丁饰演克鲁索探长。
