　　终结“镖客三部曲”
　　在《傍晚双镖客》获得成功以后，联美电影公司上层主管决议与编剧卢西亚诺·文森佐尼继续签约酝酿下一部电影。那时文森佐尼、建造人埃尔博托·格里莫迪和导演赛尔乔·莱翁对新片毫无眉目，后来文森佐尼提出了让三位仆人公寻觅美国南北战争期间宝藏的想法。联美赞成文森佐尼的发起，但希望晓得拍摄预算简直切金额。文森佐尼和格里莫迪与联美告竣了100万美圆的投资协议，后者将预先付出其中的50万，并赐与二人意大利外洋票房支出的一半，终极，影片拍摄预算爬升至130万。

　　瓦拉赫的拍摄履历可谓险象环生，他先是因误饮了摆在苏吊水旁边的强酸而几乎中毒，又在绞刑场景中被惊马带出一英里，而且马背上的他一向被反绑着双手，第三次是跳车后用列车车轮轧断锁链的场景，瓦拉赫和剧组职员都没意想到列车车梯会伸出车箱一英尺，那时他假如稍一昂首，便能够身首异处。心不足悸的瓦拉赫后来在他的自传中曾埋怨莱翁缺少平安认识。
　　片中的桥由西班牙工兵修建而成，由于负责批示的西班牙军官将摄影师预备停当的口令误看成起头，所以桥体被提早引爆，万幸的是，没人在意外中受伤。为重拍这段场景，西班牙军队又重建了桥梁，值得一提的是，这座桥不是一件道具，它厚重而坚忍，需要高爆炸药才能炸毁。
　　由于莱翁在拍摄时很少利用同期声，所以影片的配音痕迹很是明显，甚至没有一句对白与口型完全符合。虽然这类低劣结果在现在看来实在差强人意，可在那时却难以避免。由于莱翁喜幸亏拍摄现场播放埃尼奥·莫里康内的音乐，以让演员进入状态，而且英语水平有限的莱翁更重视影象，而并非对白，还有那时的录音技术还难以过滤掉莱翁经常拍摄的远景镜头中的杂音。片中的一切对白都在前期建造中录制完成，在此时代，伊斯特伍德与莱翁再度堕入对峙状态，在为美国版本配音时，两人的关系更是日就衰败，由于伊斯特伍德拿到的剧本与影片拍摄时的有所分歧，他拒绝念出新剧本中的台词。
