保罗（米歇尔·皮寇利 Michel Piccoli 饰）与卡米尔（碧姬·芭铎 Brigitte Bardot 饰）是一对幸运的夫妻，保罗剧作家的工作也足以保证他们的衣食无忧。一次，制片人普罗可修（杰克·帕兰斯 Jack Palance 饰）约请这对夫妻加入一个漫谈，在漫谈当中，面临着滔滔不停的丈夫，卡米尔的心中第一次显现出了一种名为“藐视”的可怕感情。
随着时候的推移，这类感情不但没有削弱，反而越来越激烈，激烈到她已经没法再像之前那样的对丈夫施以深入的爱意。同时，英俊帅气的普罗可修吸引了卡米尔的留意，两人越走越近。当奸情败事后，保罗大发雷霆，可卡米尔和普罗可修却绝不在意的驾驶着豪车拂袖而去，哪晓得，悲剧性的命运正在前方期待着他们。

芭铎与戈达尔的合作原本就使人难以置信，但本片在戈达尔的操控下拍出了浓郁的思辩味道，同时也让芭铎的小我魅力得以展现。本片是以电影界为题材，描写现代人的心理抵触，却幻术中戏（片中的美国制片正在拍摄《荷马史诗》中的一部）与现实间几人的豪情抵触相互穿插，以西方古文化来对照现实的恋爱天下和现代人的心理冲突，鄙弃现实的恋爱虚假，更对以金钱至上为原则构建的西方现代文化停止嘲弄和批评，突出了戈达尔一向的主题，固然，本片也布满了诗情画意，芭铎的本性和曲线美发挥得淋漓尽致。- Video
