　　作文课上，安托万（Jean-Pierre Léaud 饰）在同学传来的女人图像上涂鸦，被罚站墙角。下课后，独守课堂的安托万在墙上作诗宣泄自己的不满，引得教员（Guy Decomble 饰）加倍愤慨。早晨，母亲（Claire Maurier 饰）因安托万没买面粉大发雷霆， 而继父（Albert Rémy 饰）则在安托万的请求下拿出一笔钱让他吃午饭。 第二天，安托万在同桌勒内（Patrick Auffay 饰）的鼓动下逃了学，跑去看电影打游戏，还在街上看到母亲跟一个安托万不熟悉的汉子亲吻。 第三天，安托万回到黉舍，忙乱中谎称母亲归天，获得了教员的谅解和疼惜。不想继父获知了他逃学的事，与母亲一路赶到黉舍，揭穿了他的假话，还当着全班同学打了他两耳光。 安托万决议留下一封信离家出走。可是小小年数的他能去哪呢？巴黎那末大，法国那末大，那里才是他的安身之处呢？

　　在旁观这部电影之前，大概就算是看了以后，一定会有很多的人不大白这部呈述一个少年生活杂事的电影为何取名为《四百击》。但是，只要略懂法语，或查查法汉辞书，就会大白，“四百击”本来是法语中一个牢固的短语，其意义就是把不听话的孩子打上400下，以便他能酿成好孩子。这与中国的“黄荆棍下出好人”根基上如出一辙。这部电影的片名偶然也被译为“胡作非为”，假如说“四百击”就是挨揍自己，那末，“胡作非为”就是挨揍的缘由了。
　　在这部以特吕福本身童年履历为底色的电影中，小仆人安东尼·达尼万欠好好听课，在课堂上传阅美男图片，在墙上涂抹诅咒教员的坏话，……总之，他不讨人喜好，这使得教员和家长都以为他只会扯谎，什么好事都干得出来。他偷了他父亲单元的打字机，没有卖掉，反而被抓获，因而被送到少管所。按照社会学家的观察分析，由于缺少关心和爱，小孩子经常借助这些所谓的“胡作非为”来开释内在的天真，来表达无声的抵挡，但是期待他却也经常不是关心和爱的出现，而是“黄荆棍”的“四百击”，是布满铁丝网的少管所。《四百击》正是对这一社会现象的控诉。
　　《四百击》是二十世纪法国电影“新浪潮”的开山之作，其叙事手法简单、间接，有一种穿透心扉的气力。这类简洁、俭朴的电影手法在“新浪潮”早期甚至是一种必须的标志。这既是由于二战以后列国有知己有追求的电影人都对电影制造幻觉带来的邪恶在不竭地深思，也与那时法国存在主义思潮甚嚣尘上有关，而且，新浪潮的那一代导演大都是影迷身世，在手执导筒之前，这些人都曾在法国电影材料馆猛磕先前电影史上的各类好影片，并撰写出色影评显现自己的电影主张。毫无疑问，这些导演既遭到二、三十年月美国好莱坞电影技术的深入影响，也遭到意大利新现实主义的电影思惟的深入影响。他们以抵挡法国“优良电影”为名，成长出自己的电影看法，并在自己的电影理论中成长出新的电影气概，从而开创了一个时代的新风尚。《四百击》作为揭竿叛逆之作，毫无疑问排在这一“浪潮”的浪尖之上。[关于导演]
　　特吕福原本是一个漂泊陌头、跋山涉水的孤儿，也曾由于盗窃而被关进了少年犯的牢狱。荣幸的是，一个名叫安德烈·巴赞的人把他从那边领了出来，并抚养他长大成人。这个安德烈·巴赞，在电影史上也是一个台甫鼎鼎的人物，甚至可以这样说，没有他，也许就没有后来“新浪潮”。是巴赞，这个思惟灵敏看法独到而且心胸悲悯的人，把特吕福培育成了一位电影迷，尔后，成为天下级导演。在巴赞的提携帮助之下，特吕福一向为巴赞主编的《电影手册》撰稿，是那时很是著名的影评人。安德烈·巴赞英年早逝后，到了1958年，特吕福在妻子外家的大方援助之下，终究完成了这部具有极强自传性质的“处男作”，从而一炮走红。这部电影也是他后来一系列以安东尼·达诺这个脚色为剧情中心的初步之作。从1959年到1979年，特吕福拍摄了五部这样的电影，在影片中，安东尼·达诺不竭长大、恋爱、成婚、发生婚外情、仳离，然后衰老。从这些电影中，我们既可以看到可谓“新浪潮”之“脸面”的尚皮耶·李奥的长大，也可以从这个脚色身上看到特吕福自己的生活状态以及他对生活的所思所感。特吕福后来拍过很多电影，从形式上看更趋近于贸易电影，这也致使了同为“电影手册”影评人和“新浪潮”大导演的戈达尔对他的剧烈报复，他们原本深厚的友谊完全碎裂。但是，现在看来，戈达尔那些关于下层阶级抵挡的电影的观众必定不成能是下层阶级，反却是特吕福的电影的温情和感慨更能逢迎下层阶级的心理。是以，特吕福的电影遭到普遍的推重和爱好。在港台地域，特吕福也被译为楚浮，似乎更合适他的名字的法语发音。
