◎简　　介
　　刚刚出狱的Alex（阿伦?瑞克曼 饰）本想单独一人到加拿大去，随后他在餐厅里碰到了少女Vivienne（艾蜜莉?汉普雪儿 饰），她想坐Alex的顺风车回到母亲居住的小镇。性情活跃的Vivienne跟Alex构成了鲜明对照，两人一路上也有说有笑，怎料途中他们的车被一辆卡车撞上，Vivienne就地灭亡。                                    
                                十份惭愧的Alex带着Vivienne预备要送给母亲的礼物来到了小镇，他发现Vivienne的母亲Linda（西格妮?韦弗 饰）行为怪僻，本来她得了自闭症。接下来的日子里，Alex留在了Linda的家中，帮手Linda料理生活上的事与放置Vivienne的葬礼。                                    
                                其间，邻人Maggie（凯瑞-安?莫斯 饰）对Alex发生了好感，更从当地差人的口中得知了Alex的布景。另一方面，Alex在与Linda的相处中，对自己的曩昔渐渐放心。
