　　维吉妮亚·马德森饰演的学者海伦，正在研讨一个风行于美国官方的传闻：只要对着镜子持续五次念出“糖果人"的名字，就会出现一个右手带着铁钩的阴魂跑到世上取大家命。海伦来到芝加哥展开实地观察，连续串被铁钩致命的谋杀案亦连续发生，最初发现阿谁传闻的真相，本来是一位黑人由于跟白人小 姐相恋而遭砍断手掌，身上被涂抹上蜂蜜，令他在气绝前饱受蜂螫之痛，故意报复杀人。

                                本片与一般纯洁卖弄杀人排场的血腥恐布片有点分歧，编导伯纳德·罗斯针对配角“糖果人"的悲凉遭受，反应出“黑人遭到的不公允报酬"是造构怨恨报复的主因，主题发人深醒。影片中的往事部分拍得很是抒怀，跟现代的血腥凶杀构成鲜明对照。
