　　三个年轻的澳洲皇家水兵军官在返回军队退役的前一晚在悉尼呆了一个早晨。萨姆在军队里已经被凌虐过，所以预备乘隙当逃兵；迪恩则要急着要跟未婚妻和未来岳父岳母碰头；而哈利则只是想大玩特玩一把扑克牌。在这短短一个早晨，他们落空了自己，也落空了相互—萨姆很爱他的爷爷和妈妈，可是又惧怕回去军队后遭到一样的报酬，所以正进退维谷；迪恩只想着尽快服完役就回去跟未婚妻成婚，做一个正凡人，但却又被曩昔被下属号令一同凌虐萨姆的回忆而深深惭愧着。而哈利不单听任自己，本来他在来之前就已经设想谗谄了自己下属，然后想着让自己取而代之。这三个关系密切而又各怀苦衷的好朋友，最初能否一同克服困难，找回实在的自我，在人生门路上继续进步呢？
