　　迪恩师长把一个叫希斯克利夫（劳伦斯·奥利弗 Laurence Olivier 饰）的吉普赛男孩带回咆哮山庄。女儿凯西（梅尔·奥勃朗 Merle Oberon 饰）爱上了他，但又不愿放弃优裕的生活。希斯克利夫得知后悄悄离去，凯西则嫁给了邻人艾德加（大卫·尼文 David Niven 饰）。几年后希斯克利夫风姿潇洒地返来了，买下了咆哮山庄。艾德加的妹妹伊贝拉爱上了他，他与伊莎贝拉成婚却对她冷淡无情。凯西也由于哀痛过度而接近灭亡。希斯克利夫心神庞杂，在悼念凯西、期待灭亡中捱过了20年。他对四周一切人都极端藐视、各式熬煎，直到凯西的鬼魂在一个严冬的雪夜把他呼唤到他们最爱好的荒原上某个地方，在灭亡中重新集会……
