　　畅销书《行为的驱使力》的作者玛格丽特·福特是位精神分析专家，为帮助她的病人比利，一个因赌博欠债、生命遭到威胁的赌徒，她实地深入赌场领会赌徒的心理状态，并在那边熟悉了比利的债主迈克。油嘴滑舌的迈克满嘴蜜语甘言，死力拖玛格丽特下水。在迈克的诱引下，玛格丽特本身的一部分似乎复 苏了，到达了某种“束缚”。她加入了一个所谓的赌博圈套，试图从中渔利，但这个经心设想的圈套却出了漏子：玛格丽特不谨慎杀死了一个差人，这下玛格丽特可亏大了。后来，玛格丽特发现这一切本来都是一个大圈套，她被迈克坑了。为捞回亏掉的钱，玛格丽特也设了一个局，却被迈克看破，她不能不开枪将其打死。没有清偿主的玛格丽特成了一个道地的赌徒，她用迈克教她的方式去获得自己想获得的工具。
