　　被美国放逐的退休好莱坞明星聘请英国的廉价小说作家为他当自传的捉刀人，不意这本看似轻松的工作居然逐步酿成噩梦，由于围绕在这位过气明星身旁的衰败贵族和奥秘情妇不是被杀就是想杀掉作家，使他不能不饰演自己书中的侦察清查事务真相。由迈克．霍德吉斯执导的这部英国侦察片一方面具有严重悬疑氛围，一方面又对好莱坞影城的内幕有所嘲讽，气概犹为新颖。虽然全片的成就不是很平衡，但两位配角米高．肯恩与米盖．罗纳的表演相当出色，使它保持了不错的文娱性。
