　　某晚，供职于普林斯顿大学的太空微生物学教授海伦?本森（Jennifer Connelly 饰）被差人和几名奥秘人物带走，与她一同前往新泽西林伍德军校的还有业界内无数顶尖科学家。本来，NASA在探测外太空时发现有一不明物体正飞速接近地球。未几，一个闪烁着红色光芒的物体到临曼哈顿上空，并下降在纽约公园中心，百姓、科学家和军方将其团团围住。稍顷，一个与人类体态极为类似的外星人（基努?里维斯 Keanu Reeves 饰）以及身段高峻的机械人出现在人类眼前。粗鲁的人类完全浪费掉外星来客的和睦，而期待人类的又将是怎样的命运？
　　本片翻拍自1951年同名科幻影片，并荣获2009年美国科幻与可骇电影学院奖最好青年演员奖（Jaden Smith）。
