　　两年前的搭车人杰克掉在古生物学家阿瑟博士车中一个住址簿，阿瑟去还给杰克时，意外听说，杰克因谋杀他有钱的母亲，已被处以绞刑。阿瑟大吃一惊，由于案发时，杰克正在他的车上。两年来，阿瑟一向在里面，现在刚刚返来，没法证实杰克无罪。阿瑟深感惭愧，可是他发现杰克的家人并差池杰克的冤死感爱好，这引发他的留意。阿瑟观察了家庭中的每一个成员，最初晓得了真相。本片是典型的克里斯蒂式的推理侦察片，描写人们在道德题目上面临的逆境以及响应的各种表示，它坦直地报复了刑法。影片情节扑朔迷离。蕾切尔的闪回镜头用黑白画面表示，使观众易于把握时空的跨度，也为蕾切尔及她的死因蒙上一层奥秘色彩。本片的演员声势强大，配角均为国际影坛较著名的演员。饰演阿瑟博士的是加拿大籍著名演员唐纳德·萨瑟兰，他在中国与加拿大的合拍影片《白求恩》中饰演白求恩，他的儿子基佛·萨瑟兰则因在美剧《反恐24小时》中出演男配角杰克·鲍尔为我国观众所熟知。
