　　导演尼古拉斯．雷。布景在1942年二次大战时，美国与日本在承平洋瓜达康纳群岛正停止生死斗。美国水兵航空作战黑猫中队，受命前往支持。中队长柯比（约翰．韦恩饰）刚履任，要求纪律严正，而飞翔员却和他连结疏离态度。履行长卡尔葛芬（罗伯特．瑞安饰）却随和感性，很得军心。他也批评中队长不妥协的态度，以为飞翔员诞生入死，几多也要给点自在的空间。中队长只要他们顺应战役生活避免灭亡，对此漫不尽心，实在他也不是个毫无豪情的人，每次部下伤亡，他都写信给家属慰问分管疾苦。随着日军反扑，双方海、空军在承平洋苦战，大师才领会中队长实在酷爱着生命，履行长在生死关头也抛弃前嫌为国家使命尽力以赴，终究获告捷利。本片报告的是一个表面刻毒而心里却是酷爱动手下和生命的一其中队长，演员的成功表演令本片增色很多，在冰冷的战争背后也有着一丝一缕的温情热流。
