　　雷纳德已经是名红极一时的职业橄榄球选手，但因某种缘由被关进了牢狱。狱长沃顿·海森（Warden Hazen）,（艾迪·阿尔伯特Eddie Albert饰）酷好橄榄球，却素性残暴。他专门雇佣那些擅长玩橄榄球的狱警，让他们和监犯们停止“角逐”。不幸的监犯们底子不是对手，只能任由狱警欺侮。富有叛逆精神的雷纳德来到球队中后，顶住了沃顿的压力，不搞种族轻视，而是团结众人配合匹敌沃顿的榨取。渐渐地，他赢得了伙伴们的尊重，成为球队的精神魁首。可他也是以招致了沃顿的嫉恨。究竟是放弃角逐以重获自在，还是冒着在牢狱里度过余生的危险而对峙下去呢？相信每小我城市获得不异的答案。影片中的橄榄球赛排场可谓典范：大量的暴力镜头，剧烈的碰撞，严重的氛围，受伤的队员躺在病床上还不忘收听广播为队友加油……一切都使人不由自立地沉醉在这场正义与邪恶的较劲当中，忘记了时候的流逝。
