　　1959年，九名俄罗斯爬山爱好者在乌拉尔山脉四周失落，当他们再次被人发现时却早已灭亡，死前恍如遭到庞大的惊吓以及非人力的强大外力的攻击，这就是著名的迪亚特洛夫山径事务，时至本日仍然是一个未解之谜。远在美国俄勒冈州的女大门生霍莉·金（Holly Goss 饰）对该事务深深厚迷，在获得基金支持后，她联系到电影系门生詹森·戴伊（Matt Stokoe 饰）以及其他三名爱好者，决议前往昔时的事发地址拍摄一部记载片，试图解开悬而未决的谜题。最初的旅程欢畅有如度假一般，但随着他们逐步接近目标地，各类匪夷所思的事务接连发生，队员的心头蒙上不祥的阴影。
