　　片中的首要人物在30年月的纽约都是闻之使人胆寒的黑帮。邦皮.约翰逊受入狱的黑帮女老迈之托，代管赌毒买卖。与此外帮派先是合作，后又火并，直打得血流漂杵尸横陌头。缘由是他这个黑道人物有自己的特点，身为黑人，他不以白人的极力模仿，更不让所谓道规行律约束自己。所以，以白人舒尔茨为代表的黑道人物也视他为圈内的“犯警之徒"。从影片中我们可以看到，邦皮虽然赚的是陋规，但这些钱很多又回馈社会。人们视他为哈林区仗义疏财的罗宾汉，对社会有进献的豪杰。这位已于1968年归天的着名“大盗"也许不会想到，明天的电影人会以他的生平来表示一种阳刚之气。
