　　故事起头于一间手术室，氛围很严重。手术台上躺着一位年长的患者，他的胸腔已被翻开，还泛着红光。医生试图从他的胸腔内摘除某个已变异的器官，样子很可怕。医生似乎有点严重，在他移脱手术刀的时辰，脸上和额头上布满了汗珠。手术助手们不安地站在一旁，他们晓得有什么工作差池劲，但就是说不上来。病人忽然展开眼睛，起头尖叫…… 故事的仆人公Hannah（Claire Foy）是一位医学院的门生，母亲意外归天一年后，她来到这家医院练习。外科医生Nick（Stephen Campbell Moore）医术高明，但总给人一种奥秘感，似乎隐瞒了一些奥秘。在一次手术中，Nick不谨慎弄伤了自己的手。伤口很快红肿、发炎。而在Nick的胃里，一条看不见的「寄生虫」正在缓慢移动。与此同时，Hannah发现自己起头发生幻觉－－但那也能够不是幻觉。她看到母亲出现在镜子里，她还看到一个病人的胃部有希奇工具在「移动」……直觉告诉Hannah，这家医院必定有题目。
